I Have Waited an Eternity
I have waited an eternity for this day
Well, days or weeks or months at least
Long enough to feel like forever
Made longer by dismal gray and bitter cold
Longer still by darkness and monotony
Unbearable because of longing
My longing
For sunshine and birdsong
And my desire
To plunge my bare hands into the soil
Oh how those short days stretched on and on
But here I sit
My back to the sun
Breeze on my cheek
Singing in my ear
Yet, here I sit
Frozen and overwhelmed
By all that needs to be done
After a season of nothingness
