The Hostess
Pots and pans
Messy hands
Batter and Splatter
None of it matters
Seeing them enjoy every bite
Fills my heart with such delight
Dirty dishes
Wishbone wishes
Smiles on every face
Thinking a silent grace
Remembering those no longer here
Memories we all hold dear
Wine is flowing
Laughter is growing
Food is getting cold
Not a single story is old
Ladies hustle and bustle
Men don't move a muscle
Table is cleared
Kids all disappeared
Until the desserts arrive
Try them all we do strive
They all look so tasty
Everything from pies to pastry
Coffee is poured
Kids getting bored
Buttons are popping
Binge slowly stopping
One more washer load
Almost time for guests to hit the road
Pack up some doggy bags
Find a turkey leg to snag
Round up the family
Say farewell to happy insanity
Give everyone a long goodbye
Each takes forever, not gonna lie
Another gathering in the books
One more year I got to cook
I thank the good god above
For keeping safe the ones I love
I look forward to the next time we unite
But for now I bid you all a good night.
