A New Year, A New You

A New Year, A New You

A new year, a new day

A new you, a new way

Oh the changes you can make

Oh the changes you can fake

Go on, read all the books

While you’re trying on a new outlook

Don’t forget to start an exercise habit

Definitely eat just like a rabbit

Make sure you try your very best

But be sure to never take a rest

And always plaster on a smile

As you choke down pent up bile

Always show your gratitude

While you’re at it give more platitudes

Never ever show that anger

Well, maybe to an unsuspecting stranger

Please take all the time you need

Take a moment to plant a seed

But don’t you dare take too long

And don’t admit you did something wrong

While you do all this improving

Make sure others are approving

Of who you are attempting to be

While they are around to see

But whatever it is you do

Don’t try on another’s shoes

Don’t try to see through their eyes

You might get a scare or a surprise

Do all this and you’ll be done

Probably just after you’ve begun

To change who you were before

Into someone you might adore

A new year, same old you

A new day and still no clue

Oh the changes you will fake

Oh the changes you won’t make
